Rwanda is expected to experience drier conditions in August, with rainfall forecast to remain below the normal average for the month, the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has said.
In its August 2026 weather outlook, Meteo Rwanda said rainfall across the country is expected to range between 5 and 100 millimetres, below the usual amount received during the month.
The agency said daytime temperatures are likely to range between 21°C and 32°C, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain between 10°C and 18°C. Moderate winds are also forecast, with speeds ranging between 4 and 12 metres per second, although stronger winds may occur in some areas.
The forecast follows a relatively dry July, during which 29 out of 44 rainfall monitoring stations recorded rainfall below the normal average for the month.
Meteo Rwanda said rainfall recorded in July ranged from 0.5 millimetres to 96.6 millimetres. The highest amount was measured at the Busogo ISAE station in Musanze District, where rainfall reached 96.6 millimetres, while the lowest was recorded at Nyagatare station and Kansi station in Gisagara District, with 0.5 millimetres.
The agency said temperatures in August could be slightly higher than the usual average, a condition that may contribute to declining soil moisture and reduced water availability in some parts of the country.
Rwanda is currently in the June-August dry season, and Meteo Rwanda said soil moisture levels are expected to continue decreasing in many areas during August.
The limited rainfall recorded in July had mixed effects on agriculture. It supported harvesting activities and helped protect Season B crops, but also affected Season C preparations because of reduced moisture in the soil.
Meteo Rwanda said continued dry conditions in August could affect farming activities under Season C and urged farmers and other stakeholders to use updated weather information when planning their activities.
The agency advised the public to continue following regular weather updates, including six-hourly forecasts as well as daily, five-day, seven-day and 10-day outlooks.
