Rwanda, South Korea police sign cooperation deal

Rwanda and South Korea have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation between their police forces, with a focus on fighting crime, sharing information and building the capacity of their personnel.

The memorandum of understanding was signed Thursday in Seoul by Rwanda’s Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, and South Korea’s National Police Agency Commissioner General, Yoo Jae-Sung.

The agreement covers cooperation in fighting crimes involving criminal groups operating across national borders. It also provides for the exchange of information and expertise, as well as training programs for police personnel.

The two sides will also work together on capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening the skills and capabilities of their police forces.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to South Korea, Nkubito Manzi Bakuramutsa, attended the signing ceremony.

The agreement comes as Rwanda and South Korea continue to cooperate in several areas, including technology, trade and investment, technical and vocational education and training, health technology, agriculture and capacity building.

The police cooperation is expected to give the two institutions more opportunities to share knowledge and experience as they work to prevent and respond to crime.
