Rwanda’s meteorological agency is forecasting mostly dry conditions for July 2026, with warm daytime temperatures and limited rainfall expected across much of the country, according to Meteo Rwanda.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius (68 to 89.6 degrees Fahrenheit), while nighttime temperatures are expected to range from 9 to 18 degrees Celsius (48.2 to 64.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Rainfall is forecast to total between 0 and 35 millimeters in most areas, slightly below the long-term July average based on 30 years of climate records.
Winds are expected to be moderate to occasionally strong, with speeds ranging from 3 to 12 meters per second.
The highest temperatures, between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius, are expected in most of Kigali, the Mayaga region, the Bugarama plains and much of the Eastern Province. Exceptions include the western parts of Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts and the northern part of Rwamagana District, where slightly different local conditions are expected.
Cooler daytime highs of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius are forecast for western Musanze, northwestern Nyabihu and parts of northeastern Rubavu District. Those same areas are also expected to receive the highest localized rainfall, between 20 and 35 millimeters.
The forecast follows a warmer-than-average June across Rwanda, when temperatures rose above long-term averages in most parts of the country.
In June, average maximum temperatures ranged from 20.7 degrees Celsius at the Kinigi station in Musanze District to 31.5 degrees at Bugarama in Rusizi District. Average minimum temperatures ranged from 10.2 degrees at Busogo ISAE in Musanze to 19.8 degrees at Bugarama.
At the Gikongoro station in Nyamagabe District, average maximum temperatures increased by 2.5 degrees Celsius compared with long-term averages.
Nighttime temperatures also rose in most areas, including a 4.8-degree increase recorded at the Kirehe station in eastern Rwanda. However, Rubengera station in Karongi District recorded a slight decrease of 1.1 degrees.
