
Rwandan school teams strengthened their chances of advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association Games after a strong third day in Morogoro.
Rwanda won 15 of 25 matches played Monday, Aug. 17, losing seven and drawing three as the competition entered its decisive stages. The under-20 teams accounted for 12 of the victories.
Nyanza TSS and GS Indangaburezi maintained perfect records in under-20 volleyball. Nyanza TSS defeated Tanzania’s Lumala 3-1 in the boys’ competition, while GS Indangaburezi beat Uganda’s Seroma Christian High School 3-2 in the girls’ event. Both Rwandan teams have won their two matches.
Rwanda also recorded important basketball victories. ITS beat Tanzania’s Nsumba 94-88 in five-a-side basketball, while ESB Kamonyi’s girls defeated Uganda’s Nabisunsa Girls School 80-58.
In three-on-three basketball, ESB Kamonyi’s boys beat Tanzania’s Pamba 14-12 before defeating Kenya’s Itigi 21-4. The girls lost both of their matches.
Rwanda’s table tennis teams also enjoyed a clean sweep, winning all three matches played Monday. The girls beat Kenya 1 3-1, Team Rwanda 1’s boys defeated Uganda’s Mbogo College 3-2, while Team Rwanda 2 edged Uganda’s Ubuntu 3-2.
In football, PSB Huye secured a 1-0 win over Uganda’s Jinja Progressive Academy in the under-20 girls’ competition. CGFK drew 1-1 with Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende in the boys’ event.
Rwanda’s under-15 girls bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Tanzania’s Mvumelo by beating Kenya’s Kakamega Hills 3-1.
In handball, GS Tabagwe posted two under-20 boys’ wins, beating Tanzania’s Kilombero 22-18 and Maweni 37-25.
The FEASSA Games, which bring together secondary schools from across East Africa, will conclude Aug. 23
