Havertz breaks German goalscoring record as Arsenal win at Anfield

Kai Havertz became the highest-scoring German player in Premier League history after scoring the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The 27-year-old found the net in the 16th minute, taking his Premier League tally to 46 goals and moving ahead of former Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan, who finished with 45.

Havertz scored from close range after Declan Rice delivered the ball into the area, giving Arsenal an early lead that they held on to secure their first Premier League victory at Anfield in 14 years.

According to Opta, the goal made Havertz the competition’s leading German goalscorer. He has scored 19 Premier League goals for Chelsea and 27 since joining Arsenal. Sunday’s strike was his third league goal of the current season.

The result also ended Arsenal’s long wait for a league win at Anfield, where their previous Premier League victory had come in September 2012.

The three points lifted Mikel Arteta’s side back to the top of the Premier League table, three points ahead of Manchester City.

Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2023 and has been used in several attacking and midfield roles under Arteta. His latest goal added a personal milestone to a significant away result for the club.
