Kiyovu Sports claim first win as Gicumbi FC stay top of BK Pro League

Kiyovu Sports earned their first win of the 2026/27 BK Pro League season on Tuesday, beating Bugesera FC 1-0, while Gicumbi FC stayed at the top of the table after a 2-1 away victory over Etoile de l’Est.

Kiyovu, who had lost their opening two matches, took the lead in the 42nd minute when Rwabuhihi Placide headed in Nsanzimfura Keddy’s free kick from the left.

The goal came after Kaneza Augustin was fouled, allowing Nsanzimfura to send a cross into the box for Rwabuhihi to finish.

Bugesera, playing their first match of the season, took control for much of the second half as they searched for an equaliser but could not break through Kiyovu’s defence.

Kiyovu came close to extending their lead in the 65th minute when substitute Gihozo David unleashed a powerful shot, but Bugesera goalkeeper Ibrahim Dauda Bareli made the save.

Kiyovu had also made a change in goal before halftime after James Desire Djaoyang suffered an injury in Musanze last Saturday, with Nzeyirwanda Jimmy Djihad coming on.

The result ended Kiyovu’s losing start, following 1-0 defeats to Gorilla FC and Musanze FC.

At Ngoma Stadium, Gicumbi FC came from behind to beat Etoile de l’Est 2-1 and remain top of the standings.

Tuyisenge Jean Marveil gave Gicumbi the lead in the 17th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area. Etoile de l’Est levelled through Irigumaho Seiri just before halftime.

Gicumbi continued to press after the break and regained the lead in the 85th minute. Substitute Iradukunda Kevin delivered a corner that caused confusion in the box, with Etoile de l’Est defender Claude Masiri Luendo turning the ball into his own net.

Gicumbi will travel to Kigali FC on Oct. 9, while Etoile de l’Est visit El-Merrikh SC on Oct. 10. Kiyovu will host Marine FC and Bugesera will welcome Etincelles FC.
