Rwanda will begin its campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Championship on Tuesday when it faces Central African Republic in Tunisia.
The match comes a day after Rwanda was drawn into Group D alongside Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic. The continental championship brings together 16 national teams and runs from Sept. 15 to 26 in Tunisia.
Rwanda’s opening match will be followed by Cameroon’s meeting with DR Congo as all four teams begin their group-stage campaigns.
The Rwandan side returns to the continental championship after finishing sixth at the 2023 edition in Cairo, Egypt. Egypt won that tournament, with Algeria, Libya, Cameroon and Tunisia completing the top six.
Coach Frédéric Guérin has selected a 14-player squad for the tournament, led by Dusenge Wicklif, Ntawiha Kenny, Shyaka Frank, Kanamugire Prince, Twagirayezu Emmy, Nkurunziza John, Niyonshima Samuel, Kwizera Eric, Mutabazi Yves, Munyinya Mugisha, Rwigema Simon, Mugisha Santere, Ntanteteri Crispin and Ndayisaba Sylvester.
Rwanda will be looking to improve on its sixth-place finish as it competes against three familiar opponents in Group D. Cameroon finished runner-up at the 2019 and 2021 editions, while Rwanda last faced the continental field in 2023.
The 2026 championship is being staged in Tunisia, which is hosting the continental tournament for the seventh time.
