
RwandAir marked a major milestone in its expansion of regional air travel on Monday, December 1, with the launch of flights from Kigali to Zanzibar and Mombasa.
This new service signifies the national carrier’s growing footprint in East Africa, connecting travelers to two sought-after destinations.
A Boeing B737-800NG took off from Kigali International Airport, bound for Zanzibar and Mombasa, making its inaugural flight on Monday morning.
The airline proudly shared the achievement on X, saying, “This is a milestone for intra-Africa travel. More beaches, more beauty, more East Africa.”
Operating four times a weekon Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays RwandAir’s new route departs Kigali at 9:50 AM. It arrives in Zanzibar at 12:50 PM and continues on to Mombasa, reaching Kenya at 2:35 PM.
The return flight, WB 445, departs Mombasa at 5:10 PM, with a brief stop in Zanzibar, and arrives back in Kigali at 8:00 PM.
This new route also marks RwandAir’s return to Mombasa, a destination it last served in 2019, and introduces Zanzibar as a fresh addition to its East African network.
With this expansion, the airline now serves three destinations in Tanzania and two in Kenya, further cementing Kigali’s status as a regional travel hub.
RwandAir had announced plans for new routes to Zanzibar and Mombasa in May 2025.
The new flights are set to cater to both short weekend getaways and extended holidays, providing travelers with easy access to Zanzibar’s pristine beaches and Mombasa’s vibrant marine life, offering world class leisure experiences.
