Brad Pitt made a rare red-carpet appearance with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, at the fifth annual Albie Awards in London on Friday, joining Hollywood stars to honour people defending human rights around the world.
The ceremony, held at the Natural History Museum, was hosted by comedian Graham Norton and organised by actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, through their Clooney Foundation for Justice.
Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer, arrived hand-in-hand with her husband wearing a gold, off-the-shoulder Gucci gown. Pitt and de Ramon were among the celebrities photographed on the red carpet.
Other guests included Hugh Bonneville, Richard Kind, Laura Dern and Isla Fisher. Actress Emma Thompson attended with her daughter, Gaia Wise.
The Albie Awards recognise individuals who have shown courage in defending justice, often at considerable personal risk. They are named after Albie Sachs, the South African anti-apartheid activist and former Constitutional Court judge who received a lifetime achievement award at the inaugural ceremony in 2022.
In a statement ahead of the ceremony, the Clooneys said this year’s honourees represented the values at the heart of their foundation.
“Through these awards, we want them, and everyone advocating for justice around the globe, to know that the world is watching and that they are not alone,” they said.
Among those honoured were Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhib Kyzy, Malawian women’s rights advocate Vanessa Mwangala and American photojournalist Lynsey Addario.
The Clooney Foundation for Justice provides legal support to people defending human rights, including freedom of expression and women’s rights. Its annual awards seek to draw international attention to those working to promote justice and protect vulnerable communities.
The inaugural Albie Awards were held at the New York Public Library in 2022, attracting celebrities including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Dua Lipa and Bruce Springsteen.
