RwandAir keeps regional spotlight with latest Skytrax recognition

RwandAir has added another Skytrax honour to its recent record, receiving the award for Best Airline Staff Service in Africa at the 2026 World Airline Awards in London.

The recognition, presented on Sept. 18, focuses on the service provided by airline staff to passengers and comes a year after the Rwandan carrier was named Africa’s leading airline in the 2025 Skytrax awards.

Skytrax, which organises the annual awards, uses passenger surveys to assess airlines across a range of service categories.

RwandAir attributed the latest recognition to the work of its employees and the continued support of passengers.

“Thank you to our passengers for choosing us, trusting us with your journeys and giving us the opportunity to welcome you and share the beauty of our country,” the airline said in a message.

It also praised its staff for the professionalism and commitment they show in dealing with passengers throughout their journeys.

The latest award places RwandAir among African carriers receiving recognition in this year’s Skytrax rankings, which cover airlines across different service categories.

Ethiopian Airlines retained the title of Best Airline in Africa, while Singapore Airlines was named the World’s Best Airline. Qatar Airways ranked second globally, followed by Cathay Pacific, ANA All Nippon Airways and Turkish Airlines.

RwandAir began operations in 2002 as Rwandair Express and adopted its current name in 2009.

The airline has since expanded its network beyond Rwanda, operating routes across Africa as well as to destinations in Europe and Asia.

The Skytrax recognition comes as the carrier continues to position customer service as part of its broader effort to compete in an increasingly connected African aviation market.
