President Paul Kagame on Wednesday called for stronger efforts to attract private investment, increase exports and improve tourism as Rwanda seeks to build an economy driven by the private sector.

Kagame made the remarks during a meeting of the Rwanda Development Board’s board of directors at the agency’s headquarters in Kigali, where discussions focused on speeding up key projects and strengthening the country’s investment and tourism sectors.
He stressed the need to improve service delivery and make it easier for investors and entrepreneurs to operate without unnecessary obstacles.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to expand exports and improve Rwanda’s tourism offering, areas the government sees as important to strengthening economic growth and reducing reliance on public-sector activity.
The RDB board is chaired by Itzhak Fisher, with Evelyn Kamagaju serving as vice chair.
Other members include Alice Nkulikiyinka, chief executive of Business Professionals Network Rwanda; Ivan Kagame, who works in investment and finance; Liban Soleman Abdi; Diane Karusisi, chief executive of Bank of Kigali; Eric Kacou; and Kassahun Kebede.

RDB is responsible for promoting investment, tourism and exports and helping investors access services needed to establish and operate businesses in Rwanda.
The board meeting comes as the government continues to focus on expanding private-sector activity and positioning Rwanda as an investment and business destination.
