Kigali partners with Israeli city on technology, urban development

Kigali has entered into a cooperation agreement with Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut in Israel aimed at sharing knowledge and experience in technology, urban development and public services.

The agreement was signed Wednesday by Kigali Mayor Samuel Dusengiyumva and his counterpart Haim Bibas of Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut.

Under the arrangement, the two cities will establish a framework for dialogue and collaboration, including exchanges on smart-city development, urban planning and the use of technology to address urban challenges.

The cooperation will extend beyond technology. The cities also plan to exchange ideas and experience in culture, community relations and other areas of mutual interest.

Officials from both sides are expected to share approaches to improving services for residents and managing the challenges that come with urban growth.

Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut has developed experience in applying technology to city management and services, while Kigali has also been expanding the use of digital tools in urban planning and public administration.

The partnership is therefore expected to create opportunities for the two cities to compare solutions in areas such as planning, transport, public services and technology-driven governance.

The agreement comes as Kigali continues to develop as a growing urban centre, with technology increasingly being used to support planning and improve services to residents.

The two municipalities said the cooperation would provide a platform for continued exchange of knowledge and experience and for exploring joint responses to challenges affecting modern cities.
