
Amavubi U23 reached the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after drawing 1-1 with Sudan on Tuesday to complete a 4-1 aggregate victory.
The second leg was played at Juba National Stadium in South Sudan after the match was moved from Sudan because of security concerns. Rwanda had won the first leg 3-0 in Kigali.
Sudan took an early lead in the third minute when Al Othaymin scored following a defensive mistake by Rwanda.
Rwanda’s task became more difficult in the 34th minute when winger Muhoza Daniel was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. He had been booked earlier in the match.
Sudan went into halftime ahead, but Rwanda responded two minutes after the restart. Fisher Anderson Judah scored in the 47th minute to level the match and put Rwanda firmly in control of the tie.

Sudan needed three more goals to overturn Rwanda’s first-leg advantage but could not find a way through the Rwandan defense.
The match ended 1-1, sending Amavubi U23 into the second round with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Rwanda will face Cameroon in the second round, with the qualifying matches scheduled for November 2026.
