Singer Mugisha Benjamin, known as The Ben, has urged young people to make the most of opportunities created by social media while learning to distinguish between online attention and genuine support.
The singer made the remarks Thursday night, Aug. 13, 2026, while appearing on “Meet Me Tonight,” a segment of the Gen-Z Comedy Show that features established figures sharing their experiences with young people.
The Ben said today’s youth have more opportunities to build careers than artists of his generation, who largely depended on radio and access to established journalists to gain exposure.
“There are many opportunities. We started when radio stations were the main platform,” he said.
He cited songs that have gained popularity on social media without being played on radio, urging young people to use the platforms responsibly and pursue positive content.
“It is easy for someone to grow today if they do good things, but you should also know the difference between being followed and being loved,” he said.
The Ben also recalled difficulties convincing his mother to support his decision to pursue music, saying musician Muyoboke Alex helped him gain her support.
He began his music career in 2008 with “Amaso ku maso” and has spent 18 years in the industry.
He also announced that his long-awaited song “InshaAllah” would be released Friday.
