Travellers between Rwanda and Oman now have a new direct air connection after Oman-based low-cost carrier SalamAir launched flights linking Kigali and Muscat, a route expected to strengthen tourism, business and trade ties between the two countries.
The new service, will start operations on Tuesday, will run twice a week and provide passengers with direct access between Rwanda and Oman, as well as onward connections to SalamAir’s destinations in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
The launch ceremony was held at Muscat International Airport and brought together officials from SalamAir, Oman Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority, Rwanda’s Embassy in Oman, aviation partners and representatives from the travel and tourism sectors.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Oman, Lieutenant General Dan Munyuza, said the route marks an important step in improving links between the two countries.
“The launch of direct flights between Kigali and Muscat marks a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity between the Republic of Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman,” Munyoza said.
He said the service would support the movement of passengers and goods while creating more opportunities in tourism, trade and investment.
SalamAir Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hamilton-Mans said Kigali’s inclusion in the airline’s network reflects its continued expansion into new international markets.
“Kigali is an important addition to our growing network of destinations in Africa,” he said, adding that the airline aims to provide affordable travel options while expanding global connections.
SalamAir announced ticket sales for the route on April 30, 2026, ahead of the inaugural flight. An official Omani delegation travelled on the first service to mark the launch.
The new route adds to Rwanda’s expanding international air links and offers travellers another option for connecting East Africa with the Gulf region.
