French diplomat Jérémie Blin has formally begun his tenure as the European Union’s ambassador to Rwanda after presenting copies of his credentials to Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe on Thursday.
Blin presented the documents on Sept. 10, allowing him to take up his duties as the EU’s representative in Rwanda.
Nduhungirehe welcomed Blin’s appointment and wished him success in his new role, while assuring him of the Rwandan government’s cooperation during his tenure, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Blin takes over from Belén Calvo Uyarra, who completed her term as EU ambassador to Rwanda.
Calvo Uyarra was bid farewell in July by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Usta Kaitesi, who commended her contribution to strengthening relations and cooperation between Rwanda and the EU.
During her tenure, Calvo Uyarra was involved in cooperation covering areas including sustainable development, the economy, governance and education.
Blin brings diplomatic experience in the region. He served as France’s ambassador to Burundi and also worked as chargé d’affaires at the French Embassy in Rwanda.
The EU is one of Rwanda’s major development partners, with cooperation covering areas including sustainable development, economic development, governance and education.
Blin’s appointment comes as the two sides continue their cooperation in those areas.
