Uganda will host an eight-team tournament on Sept. 26-27 that will determine which national team secures a place in the 2027 World Rugby Sevens Series.
The event will be the opening leg of the 2026/2027 men’s World Rugby Sevens qualifying series, with Uganda looking to use home advantage to earn promotion to the global competition.
Uganda Rugby Union President Godwin Kayangwe said preparations were progressing in partnership with the government as the organizers work toward staging a successful tournament.
The hosts are also building a squad capable of challenging for the title, with Kayangwe saying Uganda’s target is to win the qualifier and secure a place in the 2027 series.
Uganda has been drawn in Group B alongside Zambia, Tunisia and Senegal.
Group A comprises Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco, with the eight teams competing for the tournament’s sole qualification place.
The team that finishes top will earn an automatic place in the 2027 World Rugby Sevens Series.
