Rwanda needed just three sets to dispatch Burkina Faso and reach the quarter-finals of the African Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nairobi on Sunday.
The Rwandan team made the difference early, taking the opening set 25-19 before extending their advantage with a 25-16 win in the second.
Burkina Faso struggled to stay in the contest in the final set as Rwanda pulled away to a 25-8 victory and completed a 3-0 win at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
The result sends Rwanda into the last eight, where they will meet the winner of the match between Zambia and Ghana.
Rwanda had entered the knockout stage in strong form after winning all three of their Group D matches to finish top with nine points.
That unbeaten group campaign gave the Rwandan side a strong start to the knockout rounds, but Burkina Faso offered little resistance once the match got underway.
Rwanda controlled the decisive stages of each set and finished the match without dropping one.
The quarter-finals will provide another test for Rwanda as they continue their campaign in a tournament featuring some of Africa’s leading women’s volleyball teams.
