Rwandan musicians are earning income from a 15-day exhibition in Musanze, with organizers expecting performers to make more than 30 million Rwandan francs by the time the event ends Sept. 2.
The Northern Province exhibition, which opened Aug. 19, features a different artist each day as part of a program designed to entertain visitors and draw more people to the event.
Ally Muhirwa, one of the concert organizers, said the performances serve both as entertainment and an opportunity for artists to earn from their work.
“Musanze residents enjoy music, particularly music by Rwandan artists,” Muhirwa said. “The concerts are also a good way of attracting more people to the exhibition, and they have responded well.”
Artists who have performed so far include Zeo Trap, Papa Cyangwe, Bushali, Danny Nanone, Afrique, Mico The Best, Fireman, Khalfan, QD, Theo Bosebabireba and Niyo Bosco.
Israel Mbonyi is scheduled to perform Aug. 30 in Musanze, with additional performers expected to be announced during the exhibition.
Organizers expect about 15 artists to take part in the music program over the course of the exhibition.
Beyond showcasing products and other activities, the event is creating paid performance opportunities for musicians while giving residents and visitors a chance to attend live shows during the exhibition.
