Rwanda set for Burundi test as unbeaten run continues in Nairobi

Rwanda’s national women’s volleyball team will face Burundi on Thursday with top spot in Group D within reach after opening their African Championship campaign with two straight-set victories in Nairobi.

Rwanda moved to six points after beating Algeria 3-0 on Tuesday before securing another 3-0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The results have left Rwanda as the only unbeaten team in the group after two matches.

Victory over Burundi at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on August 27 would confirm Rwanda as Group D winners and secure a favourable route into the knockout stage. The group winners are expected to face the fourth-placed team from Group C in the Round of 16.

Elsewhere in Group D, Algeria beat Burundi 3-0 and will meet DR Congo on Thursday. Both teams have three points and their match will determine who finishes behind Rwanda if Rwanda beat Burundi.

Rwanda, Algeria, DR Congo and Burundi make up Group D.

The match against Burundi will be Rwanda’s final test before the knockout rounds as the team looks to build on its unbeaten start to the tournament.
