APR FC continued preparations for the 2026/27 season with a 1-0 victory over Kenya’s Mathare United in a friendly at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Wednesday.
Djibril Ouattara scored the only goal in the 37th minute, finishing a low cross from Jean Gilbert Byiringiro, known as Kagege, to give the Rwandan side the lead.
APR FC created most of the chances and could have won by a wider margin. William Togui headed just over the bar shortly after the opening goal, while Ouattara and Togui missed further opportunities after the break.
Mathare United struggled to threaten the APR FC goal and did not register a shot on target in the first half.
APR FC made several changes during the match as the technical staff continued to assess the squad ahead of the new season, but the score remained unchanged.
The victory was APR FC’s third friendly since its early exit from the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup. The team has also played Gasogi United and Etincelles during its preparations.
APR FC will face Al Merrikh SC on Monday, Aug. 17, in its next preseason test.
Mathare United is also using its stay in Rwanda to prepare for the upcoming Kenyan season. The Kenyan side is scheduled to face either Kiyovu Sports or Gorilla FC on Friday before taking on Rayon Sports on Sunday, Aug. 16.
