The central bank will receive them there from December 1, 2026, until March 1, 2027.

The affected notes are Rwf500 bills issued on July 1, 2004, and January 1, 2013; Rwf1,000 bills issued on July 1, 2004, and May 1, 2015; Rwf2,000 bills issued on October 31, 2007; and Rwf5,000 bills issued on April 1, 2004, and February 1, 2009.

BNR had initially set November 1, 2026, as the final day for exchanging the notes through commercial banks and Umwalimu SACCO. Its November 1 notice gives holders until the end of this month to use those channels before the process moves exclusively to the central bank’s headquarters.

The withdrawal was announced on March 24, 2026, under Presidential Order No. 011/01 of February 27, 2026, which was published in the Official Gazette on March 2.

The original arrangement allowed a nine-month exchange period, running from March 2 to November 1, 2026. The revised schedule now gives holders until March 1, 2027, to exchange the affected banknotes, although the location for doing so changes after November 30.

People holding withdrawn Rwandan banknotes will have until November 30 to exchange them at commercial banks and Umwalimu SACCO branches, after the National Bank of […]

[43,53,4,41,34,40

post-5047","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-current_affairs","category-featured-stories","category-finance","category-hot_topics","category-national","category-top_stories
["GET
