President Paul Kagame has said Rwanda wants to help demonstrate how artificial intelligence can be used for public benefit, with projects developed in the country potentially serving as models for other nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the remarks on October 28, 2026, while participating virtually in the second meeting of the International Commission on AI for Good, a body established to promote the use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of people worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRwanda stands ready to be a model for the work of the Commission on AI for Good, where some of our national projects could be replicated elsewhere,\u201d Kagame said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting brought together commission members, including co-chair Marc Benioff, chief executive and co-founder of Salesforce, and vice-chair Doreen Bogdan-Martin, secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kagame thanked members for their contributions since the commission was established on July 8, 2026, and said its work should focus on practical solutions that ensure the benefits of AI reach people across countries and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He argued that achieving this would require broad participation in decisions about how the technology is developed and used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe benefits of artificial intelligence will increase over time, provided we all have a voice in shaping the future of this new technology,\u201d he said. He urged commission members to continue asking difficult questions and contribute their time, knowledge and resources to finding workable answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting reviewed progress made during the commission\u2019s first three months and considered further steps to expand AI\u2019s contribution to economic growth and social well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI is increasingly being used to improve productivity, streamline services and address development challenges. However, the commission\u2019s work also recognises the need for responsible governance and wider access to digital technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its agenda includes efforts to extend internet access to the more than 2.2 billion people worldwide who remain unconnected, particularly in developing countries, including across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission seeks to strengthen international cooperation so that AI delivers practical benefits without leaving communities behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
