Rwanda\u2019s new ambassador to Israel, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Emmanuel Bayingana, has presented his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, formally beginning his diplomatic mission in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony took place at the President\u2019s Residence in Jerusalem on Monday, October 26, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their meeting, Herzog highlighted the growing friendship and cooperation between Rwanda and Israel in areas including innovation, agriculture, development and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bayingana was appointed Rwanda\u2019s ambassador to Israel in June 2026, replacing James Gatera, who had held the position since December 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two countries maintain diplomatic relations, with each operating an embassy in the other. Their ties have also been reinforced by visits by their respective leaders over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2026, Rwanda and Israel signed a cooperation agreement covering basic education, knowledge sharing, technology, higher education and scientific research. The agreement reflected their shared interest in expanding collaboration in education and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooperation in agriculture and education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rwanda has been sending students to Israel for agricultural training since 2012, drawing on the country\u2019s experience in irrigation, greenhouse farming, agricultural waste processing and intensive farming methods designed to increase productivity on limited land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cooperation forms part of broader efforts to strengthen agricultural knowledge and support development through skills transfer and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rwanda and Israel also share historical experiences that have shaped their relationship. Rwanda commemorates the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, while Israel and Jewish communities around the world remember the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were murdered during the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These historical experiences have provided a basis for reflection on genocide, remembrance and the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
