They were followed by talks between President Paul Kagame and Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, at Urugwiro Village on Thursday.

The agreements cover political consultations, information and communication technology, innovation, tourism, youth, culture and the arts, sports, higher education, scientific research and standardisation. Three instruments relate to mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons.

The two countries are also looking to deepen cooperation in agriculture, health, infrastructure, security and investment, alongside efforts to strengthen links between their private sectors.

Trade and investment featured prominently in a Rwanda-Senegal business forum held alongside the joint commission. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Senegal’s investment promotion agency, APIX, signed an agreement intended to facilitate business cooperation and investment between the two countries.

The arrangement is expected to support partnerships in agriculture and agro-processing, construction, real estate, fashion and trade, while helping products made in Rwanda gain access to the Senegalese market.

The business discussions form part of wider efforts by Kigali and Dakar to turn their diplomatic relations into practical economic cooperation.

Kagame’s meeting with Niang followed the joint commission’s inaugural session and the business forum, both of which focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Rwanda and Senegal have maintained diplomatic relations for decades. Rwanda opened its embassy in Dakar in 2011, while Senegal opened its embassy in Kigali in late 2020 and began full operations in 2021.

The latest agreements provide a framework for further cooperation, although their impact will depend on how the commitments are implemented and how effectively businesses and institutions in both countries use the opportunities created.

Rwanda and Senegal have signed 11 cooperation agreements and other instruments covering areas including technology, tourism, education and justice, as the two countries seek to […]

[49,43,3,53,41,5,35,40

post-4394","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-africa-news","category-current_affairs","category-economy","category-featured-stories","category-hot_topics","category-politics","category-regional","category-top_stories
["GET
