They hide them or take them to another country instead of helping them to reform and become better people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was speaking at the opening of a national retreat for ADEPR pastors at Nkumba Leadership Development Centre in Burera District. The event runs from Oct. 5 to 10 and brings together senior pastors and other church leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/abashumba_50_bo_mu_itorero_rya_adper_bari_mu_itorero_ry_igihugu_ribigisha_amahame_ndetse_n_amateka_y_igihugu-ee013.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/abashumba_50_bo_mu_itorero_rya_adper_bari_mu_itorero_ry_igihugu_ribigisha_amahame_ndetse_n_amateka_y_igihugu-ee013.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/abashumba_50_bo_mu_itorero_rya_adper_bari_mu_itorero_ry_igihugu_ribigisha_amahame_ndetse_n_amateka_y_igihugu-ee013-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/abashumba_50_bo_mu_itorero_rya_adper_bari_mu_itorero_ry_igihugu_ribigisha_amahame_ndetse_n_amateka_y_igihugu-ee013-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bizimana contrasted those practices with ADEPR\u2019s handling of its own history, saying the church had acknowledged that some of its pastors participated in the genocide and removed them from pastoral responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He praised the church for what he described as a willingness to examine its past, recognise wrongdoing and take corrective measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ADEPR General Overseer Pastor Isa\u00efe Ndayizeye said the retreat was intended to help pastors understand Rwanda\u2019s history, including the factors that contributed to the destruction of the country and its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the lessons would help church leaders and their congregations contribute to rebuilding the country and protecting it from a recurrence of such divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister also called on religious organisations to play a greater role in strengthening national unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bizimana said ethnic discrimination was among the forces that contributed to the destruction of Rwanda and that religious institutions had a responsibility to help counter divisions and promote unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ADEPR has previously acknowledged that some of its members participated in the genocide.
