The services provide connections for imports and exports, including links to markets in India and the Far East.

The company said the Kigali operation will complement those existing connections by providing a local point of contact for customers in Rwanda and Burundi.

“Strengthening our presence in Namibia, Rwanda and Burundi is an important milestone in the continued development of Hapag-Lloyd in Africa,” said Jesper Kanstrup, the company’s managing director for the Africa sub-region.

Kanstrup said the expansion would combine knowledge of local markets with Hapag-Lloyd’s international network, arguing that Africa’s diverse economies require shipping and logistics companies to understand the specific needs of individual markets.

The move comes as Rwanda continues to seek stronger connections to international markets despite being landlocked. The country relies heavily on regional transport corridors and ports in neighbouring countries to handle much of its overseas trade.

For Rwandan businesses, efficient links to seaports and international shipping networks are important for both imports and exports, particularly as the country works to expand trade and attract investment.

Hapag-Lloyd said Africa’s growing economies, expanding trade flows and evolving supply chains are creating opportunities for greater international connectivity.

The company said the investment in Kigali is part of its wider Strategy 2030 growth plans and reflects its intention to expand local expertise and customer support across the continent.

The new Kigali operation will serve both Rwanda and Burundi, giving Hapag-Lloyd a stronger foothold in the Great Lakes region while linking the two markets to its wider African and global network.

German shipping and logistics company Hapag-Lloyd has opened a new setup in Kigali to serve customers in Rwanda and Burundi, strengthening its presence in two […]

[49,2,43,3,36,40

post-4224","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-africa-news","category-business","category-current_affairs","category-economy","category-international","category-top_stories
["GET
