{"id":4178,"date":"2026-10-02T13:54:40","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T13:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=4178"},"modified":"2026-10-02T13:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T13:54:40","slug":"ferwafa-sets-january-2027-election-to-replace-former-president-shema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/02\/ferwafa-sets-january-2027-election-to-replace-former-president-shema\/sports\/","title":{"rendered":"FERWAFA sets January 2027 election to replace former president Shema"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"597\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/21707-1024x597-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/21707-1024x597-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/21707-1024x597-1-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/21707-1024x597-1-767x447.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) will elect a new president in January 2027 following the resignation of Shema Ngoga Fabrice after about 13 months in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision was made on Thursday, Oct. 1, at a meeting of FERWAFA\u2019s Executive Committee, which also agreed that Claudine Gasarabwe will continue as acting president until the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gasarabwe, who previously served as FERWAFA\u2019s first vice president in charge of finance and administration, took over on an interim basis following Shema\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact date and venue of the election will be announced through an Extraordinary General Assembly, FERWAFA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shema resigned on Sept. 29 in a letter that took immediate effect, ending his tenure roughly 13 months after he was elected to lead the federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His resignation came after about six weeks of court proceedings linked to his business activities outside football.
