Sindi came closest when his free kick struck the post.

The hosts doubled their advantage two minutes after the restart. Sultan Bobo started the move by carrying the ball forward before passing to Muhoza, who then found Shingiro. With the Sudanese goalkeeper poorly positioned, Shingiro finished into an open goal.

Coach Nshimiyimana Eric responded by bringing on Yangiriyeneza Erirohe for midfielder Kayibanda Smith as Rwanda pushed for a third.

Muhoza hit the post soon afterwards, but Rwanda eventually got the goal they were looking for in the 78th minute.

Sudan’s goalkeeper came off his line and failed to deal with the ball, allowing Sindi to get there first and fire into the net for Rwanda’s third.

The result gives Rwanda a three-goal lead before the teams meet again in Juba on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
