{"id":4073,"date":"2026-09-29T10:18:33","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T10:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=4073"},"modified":"2026-09-29T10:18:33","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T10:18:33","slug":"fifa-uefa-clash-over-shelved-world-cup-investment-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/29\/fifa-uefa-clash-over-shelved-world-cup-investment-plan\/sports\/","title":{"rendered":"FIFA, UEFA clash over shelved World Cup investment plan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"739\" height=\"415\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/images-2-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4076\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/images-2-8.jpg 739w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/images-2-8-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FIFA has accused UEFA of running a \u201cmisinformation campaign\u201d against a proposed private-investor scheme that could have generated billions of dollars to support football development, according to legal documents filed in a U.S. court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dispute centres on the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a proposal examined by FIFA President Gianni Infantino before it was shelved after UEFA and two other continental football confederations opposed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FIFA made the allegations in a submission to the District Court of South Florida, where it is opposing a UEFA request for documents related to the FFE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governing body rejected suggestions that Infantino stood to personally benefit from the proposal, saying it would have required approval from FIFA&#8217;s 211 member associations and the FIFA Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UEFA had questioned the valuation attached to the project, describing its estimated $20 billion figure as \u201cfraudulently off-market\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FIFA disputed that assessment, saying UEFA had confused the project&#8217;s equity value with its enterprise value. It said the enterprise value was more than twice the equity valuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legal dispute comes as tensions between FIFA and UEFA extend into the organisation&#8217;s leadership. UEFA has said it has lost confidence in Infantino and is seeking a rival candidate for next year&#8217;s FIFA presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FIFA&#8217;s filing also questioned the timing of UEFA&#8217;s court application, noting that the deadline for presidential candidates to be nominated is Nov. 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis court should reject any attempt to influence FIFA&#8217;s presidential election,\u201d FIFA said in its filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UEFA had accused FIFA of pursuing the case improperly, arguing that its document request was intended for \u201charassment\u201d rather than a legitimate need for discovery.
