{"id":3872,"date":"2026-09-22T08:54:23","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T08:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3872"},"modified":"2026-09-22T08:54:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T08:54:23","slug":"rwanda-and-togo-deepen-ties-with-new-cooperation-agreements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/22\/rwanda-and-togo-deepen-ties-with-new-cooperation-agreements\/economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda and Togo deepen ties with new cooperation agreements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3873\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2B152D96-837A-4039-AE25-C0C6B5DF0E61.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rwanda and Togo have signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening political cooperation and expanding ties between the two countries, as Kigali looks to deepen its links with West African markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreements were signed in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly by Rwanda\u2019s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe and his Togolese counterpart Robert Dussey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The package includes arrangements for political consultations, the establishment of a joint commission to oversee bilateral cooperation and agreements covering cooperation in several areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two ministers expressed their governments\u2019 commitment to strengthening relations in ways that benefit their citizens and support wider African integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Rwanda, the partnership with Togo could provide an additional route into West African markets through trade, investment and transport links, while giving both countries an opportunity to make greater use of the African Continental Free Trade Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreement builds on recent discussions between the two countries on expanding trade, adding value to products and increasing agricultural exports. Rwanda\u2019s trade and industry minister held talks with Togolese officials in May on those areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Togo occupies a strategic position in West African commerce, with the Port of Lom\u00e9 serving as an important regional gateway.
