More than 1,000 residents from low-income households in Rwanda\u2019s capital are set to gain improved access to clean water under a new project targeting more than 200 families in Nyarugenge District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was launched on Sept. 16 in Nyamirambo by beverage maker BRALIRWA Plc in partnership with Water Access Rwanda, with support from different stakeholders including the City of Kigali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will cover four sectors of Nyarugenge District \u2014 Nyarugenge, Mageragere, Kanyinya and Kigali \u2014 and is aimed at improving access to clean water for households that face difficulties securing reliable supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kigali City Deputy Mayor in charge of Social Affairs and Economic Development, Martine Urujeni, said the initiative would ease the burden on families that spend time and effort looking for water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said improved access would also contribute to better hygiene, health and general living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRALIRWA Chief Executive Officer Ethel Emma-Uche said the project forms part of the company\u2019s \u201cBrew a Better World\u201d sustainability programme and its Evergreen 2030 strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCollaboration in improving people\u2019s wellbeing is one of the pillars of our Brew a Better World programme and part of our Evergreen 2030 strategy,\u201d she said. \u201cOur goal is to sustainably improve the lives of people, the communities we serve and the environment through purposeful partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emma-Uche said sustainable development required government institutions, businesses, development partners and communities to work together to address shared challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRALIRWA said the project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Rwanda\u2019s Second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), under which access to clean water is among the priorities linked to improved living conditions and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative adds to previous efforts by the company to expand access to safe drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRALIRWA previously worked with Spouts of Water Rwanda to provide water filters to 250 households in Rwamagana District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has also partnered with Empower Rwanda to support 100 mothers in Gatsibo and Rwamagana districts with equipment to start small businesses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
