{"id":3726,"date":"2026-09-16T09:01:18","date_gmt":"2026-09-16T09:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3726"},"modified":"2026-09-16T09:01:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T09:01:18","slug":"kiyovu-sports-claim-first-win-as-gicumbi-fc-stay-top-of-bk-pro-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/16\/kiyovu-sports-claim-first-win-as-gicumbi-fc-stay-top-of-bk-pro-league\/sports\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiyovu Sports claim first win as Gicumbi FC stay top of BK Pro League"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"826\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789490987_whatsapp_image_2026-09-15_at_18_37.07-1024x826.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789490987_whatsapp_image_2026-09-15_at_18_37.07-1024x826.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789490987_whatsapp_image_2026-09-15_at_18_37.07-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789490987_whatsapp_image_2026-09-15_at_18_37.07-767x619.jpg 767w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789490987_whatsapp_image_2026-09-15_at_18_37.07.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kiyovu Sports earned their first win of the 2026\/27 BK Pro League season on Tuesday, beating Bugesera FC 1-0, while Gicumbi FC stayed at the top of the table after a 2-1 away victory over Etoile de l\u2019Est.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kiyovu, who had lost their opening two matches, took the lead in the 42nd minute when Rwabuhihi Placide headed in Nsanzimfura Keddy\u2019s free kick from the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal came after Kaneza Augustin was fouled, allowing Nsanzimfura to send a cross into the box for Rwabuhihi to finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bugesera, playing their first match of the season, took control for much of the second half as they searched for an equaliser but could not break through Kiyovu\u2019s defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kiyovu came close to extending their lead in the 65th minute when substitute Gihozo David unleashed a powerful shot, but Bugesera goalkeeper Ibrahim Dauda Bareli made the save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kiyovu had also made a change in goal before halftime after James Desire Djaoyang suffered an injury in Musanze last Saturday, with Nzeyirwanda Jimmy Djihad coming on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result ended Kiyovu\u2019s losing start, following 1-0 defeats to Gorilla FC and Musanze FC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Ngoma Stadium, Gicumbi FC came from behind to beat Etoile de l\u2019Est 2-1 and remain top of the standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuyisenge Jean Marveil gave Gicumbi the lead in the 17th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area. Etoile de l\u2019Est levelled through Irigumaho Seiri just before halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gicumbi continued to press after the break and regained the lead in the 85th minute. Substitute Iradukunda Kevin delivered a corner that caused confusion in the box, with Etoile de l\u2019Est defender Claude Masiri Luendo turning the ball into his own net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gicumbi will travel to Kigali FC on Oct. 9, while Etoile de l\u2019Est visit El-Merrikh SC on Oct. 10.
