{"id":3394,"date":"2026-08-30T18:19:58","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T18:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3394"},"modified":"2026-08-30T18:19:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T18:19:58","slug":"10km-prince-house-giporoso-masaka-road-moves-into-construction-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/30\/10km-prince-house-giporoso-masaka-road-moves-into-construction-phase\/economy\/","title":{"rendered":"10km Prince House-Giporoso-Masaka road moves into construction phase"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"871\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/prince_house-b5203.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/prince_house-b5203.jpg 871w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/prince_house-b5203-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/prince_house-b5203-767x486.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 871px) 100vw, 871px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Prince House-Giporoso-Masaka road has moved into a new construction phase, with work now underway to expand the 10-kilometre corridor from two lanes to four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) said the latest works started on August 30 and will take 30 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project follows years of preparation, including the valuation and demolition of properties affected by the planned expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The upgrade will include a flyover, underpasses and interchanges, as well as bridges, culverts, pavement works, drainage systems, street lighting and traffic-management infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTDA said the expanded road will increase its capacity and improve the movement of people and goods along the corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The road connects Kigali city centre with the Special Economic Zone and Masaka and carries traffic in both directions on the existing two-lane carriageway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Motorists will face temporary changes in traffic movement as construction progresses. The City of Kigali, RTDA and Rwanda National Police have identified alternative routes around Giporoso, Sonatube, Kimironko, Zindiro, Ndera, Gasogi, Kabuga, Kicukiro and Busanza, among other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTDA said the diversion arrangements may be adjusted depending on the progress of the works and prevailing traffic conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency urged motorists, businesses and residents along the corridor to follow temporary traffic arrangements and cooperate with authorities during construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is part of Rwanda-China cooperation in transport infrastructure. In June 2019, the two governments signed a $42.8 million grant agreement that included financing for the expansion and rehabilitation of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, the government said the project would help reduce congestion, ease commuting and support business activity by improving links between Kigali city centre, the Special Economic Zone and Masaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once completed, the four-lane corridor is expected to accommodate current and future traffic demand while improving road safety and transport efficiency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Prince House-Giporoso-Masaka road has moved into a new construction phase, with work now underway to expand the 10-kilometre corridor from two lanes to four.
