Media reports said he had been receiving treatment for cancer in the United States, but the kingdom had not confirmed that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"681\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/gggg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3292\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5133936818769629;width:747px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/gggg.webp 681w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/gggg-300x198.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier on Thursday, Tooro officials said Oyo was in critical condition and appealed to the public to pray for him, while urging people to avoid speculation and the spread of unverified information about his health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His death came as a shock to many Ugandans who were unaware that he had been receiving medical treatment abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is very difficult to comprehend,\u201d Uganda\u2019s Deputy Parliament Speaker Thomas Tayebwa said in a tribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born on April 16, 1992, Oyo became Omukama of Tooro in September 1995 after the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"731\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ki.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3285\" style=\"width:765px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ki.jpg 731w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ki-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 731px) 100vw, 731px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His accession at the age of three made him the world\u2019s youngest reigning monarch, a distinction recognised by Guinness World Records. His childhood attracted international attention as he grew up under the guidance of his mother, Queen Best Kemigisa, members of the royal family and regents who helped manage the kingdom\u2019s affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oyo assumed full royal duties when he turned 18 in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an adult, he maintained a relatively private life despite his international profile. The monarchy has no constitutional political authority but plays a cultural role, with the king serving as a custodian of the traditions and identity of the Batooro people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uganda\u2019s traditional kingdoms were abolished after independence and restored in 1993 under President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"622\" height=\"493\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/KM.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3289\" style=\"width:756px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/KM.jpg 622w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/KM-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oyo\u2019s reign made him a familiar figure in Uganda from childhood.
