{"id":3213,"date":"2026-08-26T07:19:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T07:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3213"},"modified":"2026-08-26T07:19:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T07:19:45","slug":"kagame-afdb-president-discuss-expanding-investment-in-rwanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/26\/kagame-afdb-president-discuss-expanding-investment-in-rwanda\/economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Kagame, AfDB president discuss expanding investment in Rwanda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"617\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/c-4-1024x617.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/c-4-1024x617.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/c-4-300x180.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/c-4-767x462.jpeg 767w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/c-4.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Paul Kagame met Tuesday with African Development Bank Group President Sidi Ould Tah in Kigali to discuss strengthening cooperation and expanding investment in Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The talks focused on the partnership between Rwanda and the AfDB, including efforts to accelerate investment, economic growth and development in Rwanda and across Africa, according to a statement from the Office of the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ould Tah was in Kigali to attend the Africa Mindset Reset Forum 2026, a two-day conference bringing together African leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the continent\u2019s development priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting comes as the AfDB plans to increase its financing of Rwanda\u2019s agriculture sector, which has historically received a smaller share of the bank\u2019s investment than infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bank plans to invest more than $400 million in agriculture in Rwanda over the next three years, according to information provided by the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infrastructure accounts for about 87% of the AfDB\u2019s committed investment in Rwanda. Water and sanitation make up 34% of the portfolio, followed by energy at 30%, multisector projects at 11%, finance at 10% and transport at 9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agriculture, communications, social development and urban development together account for about 6% of the bank\u2019s investment portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AfDB began operations in Rwanda in 1974 and has supported projects in areas including roads, energy, industry and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2025, the bank approved a $9.4 million grant to support efforts to reduce the impact of floods and other disasters, particularly in Rusizi and Karongi districts in Western Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Africa Mindset Reset Forum was organized by the African School of Governance, an institution established by Kagame and other partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting comes as Rwanda seeks to attract more investment into productive sectors such as agriculture while continuing to expand infrastructure and other areas supported by development financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"762\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Perezida-Kagame-na-Dr.-Sidi-Ould-Tah-uyobora-AfDB-baganiriye-ku-bufatanye-mu-Iterambere-1024x762.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Perezida-Kagame-na-Dr.-Sidi-Ould-Tah-uyobora-AfDB-baganiriye-ku-bufatanye-mu-Iterambere-1024x762.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Perezida-Kagame-na-Dr.-Sidi-Ould-Tah-uyobora-AfDB-baganiriye-ku-bufatanye-mu-Iterambere-300x223.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Perezida-Kagame-na-Dr.-Sidi-Ould-Tah-uyobora-AfDB-baganiriye-ku-bufatanye-mu-Iterambere-768x571.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Perezida-Kagame-na-Dr.-Sidi-Ould-Tah-uyobora-AfDB-baganiriye-ku-bufatanye-mu-Iterambere.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Paul Kagame met Tuesday with African Development Bank Group President Sidi Ould Tah in Kigali to discuss strengthening cooperation and expanding investment in Rwanda.
