{"id":3203,"date":"2026-08-25T13:07:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T13:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3203"},"modified":"2026-08-25T13:07:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T13:07:21","slug":"president-kagame-urges-africa-to-turn-ambitions-into-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/25\/president-kagame-urges-africa-to-turn-ambitions-into-action\/politics\/regional\/","title":{"rendered":"President Kagame urges Africa to turn ambitions into action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"989\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk.jpg 989w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk-767x588.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 989px) 100vw, 989px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Africa has the people, resources and knowledge needed to achieve its development ambitions but continues to struggle to turn its plans into results, President Paul Kagame said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kagame was speaking at the Africa Mindset Reset Forum in Kigali, a two-day gathering of more than 2,500 leaders, experts and policymakers focused on the changes Africa needs to make to achieve sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the continent had made significant progress over the past 50 years, but should also confront the reasons it has failed to achieve some of the goals it has repeatedly set for itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfrica has everything it needs to develop. It has people, it has resources and it has a history from which we should have learned many lessons,\u201d Kagame said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1001\" height=\"607\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk2.jpg 1001w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk2-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk2-767x465.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bigger question, he said, was why Africa had not been able to reach the future it had envisioned despite having many of the tools required to get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is an Africa we want, but why can\u2019t we reach the Africa we want when we have everything?\u201d he said. \u201cThere is something we must identify that keeps making us fail, and then confront it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kagame said African countries often develop strategies and agree on what needs to be done, but fail to match those commitments with action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said changing the continent would therefore require changes in behaviour and the way institutions and people approach their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe must change our continent, but we cannot change our continent without changing our behavior, the way we do things and the way we conduct ourselves,\u201d Kagame said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also criticised a tendency among some Africans to celebrate achievements from outside the continent while failing to recognise and support African talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"989\" height=\"607\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk4.jpg 989w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk4-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk4-767x471.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 989px) 100vw, 989px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy don\u2019t we do things that make us appreciate one another?\u201d he said, urging Africans to build on the abilities of their own people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kagame said such attitudes could leave Africans dependent on others for direction while complaining about decisions made elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"947\" height=\"621\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk5.jpg 947w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk5-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pk5-767x503.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 947px) 100vw, 947px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forum was organised by the African School of Governance, which Kagame helped establish.
