{"id":3137,"date":"2026-08-21T16:45:51","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T16:45:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=3137"},"modified":"2026-08-21T16:45:51","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T16:45:51","slug":"rwanda-begins-world-championships-preparations-with-19-cyclists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/21\/rwanda-begins-world-championships-preparations-with-19-cyclists\/sports\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda begins World Championships preparations with 19 cyclists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"685\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ddddd.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ddddd.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ddddd-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ddddd-768x526.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rwanda has begun preparations for the 2026 UCI Road World Championships with 19 cyclists selected for a training camp in Musanze ahead of the competition in Canada next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cyclists started training this week at the UCI Regional Satellite Centre and will remain in camp until Sept. 16 before travelling to Montr\u00e9al, which will host the championships from Sept. 20-27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National team coach F\u00e9lix Sempoma selected riders in the elite, Under-23 and junior categories for the preparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The women&#8217;s junior team comprises Yvonne Masengesho, Donatha Akimana and Zawadi Kanyange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The elite and Under-23 women&#8217;s group includes Xaveline Nirere, Claudette Nyirarukundo, Diane Ingabire, Liliane Uwiringiyimana, Mariate Byukusenge and Jazilla Mwamikazi. Uwiringiyimana, Byukusenge and Mwamikazi are in the Under-23 category, while Mwamikazi is currently training in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shemu Nsengiyumva is the only rider above 23 in the men&#8217;s elite category. He will train alongside Shadrack Ufitimana, Aim\u00e9 Ruhumuriza, Kevin Nshutiraguma and Samuel Niyonkuru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The junior men&#8217;s squad includes Brian Ishimwe, Jackson Nkurikiyinka, Jonathan Rafiki Muhawenimana, Pacifique Byusa and Jules Mugabo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/18_riders_have_kicked_off_training_camp_at_wccmusanze__they_will_train_through_september_16_t_heic-187f4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3139\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/18_riders_have_kicked_off_training_camp_at_wccmusanze__they_will_train_through_september_16_t_heic-187f4.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/18_riders_have_kicked_off_training_camp_at_wccmusanze__they_will_train_through_september_16_t_heic-187f4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/18_riders_have_kicked_off_training_camp_at_wccmusanze__they_will_train_through_september_16_t_heic-187f4-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The championships will be the 99th edition of the UCI Road World Championships, following the 2025 event in Kigali, the first time the competition was held on African soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rwanda was represented by 23 cyclists in Kigali last year.
