{"id":2932,"date":"2026-08-12T20:27:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T20:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/?p=2932"},"modified":"2026-08-12T20:27:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T20:27:33","slug":"rwanda-sends-243-students-to-tanzania-for-east-african-schools-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/12\/rwanda-sends-243-students-to-tanzania-for-east-african-schools-games\/sports\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda sends 243 students to Tanzania for East African schools games"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cc-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cc-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cc-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cc-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/thedawnrwanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cc.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rwanda has sent 243 students to Tanzania to compete in the 24th edition of the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) games, with the delegation aiming to improve on last year&#8217;s medal tally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students, drawn from secondary schools across the country, left Kigali on Wednesday, Aug. 12, for the competition, which will be held in Tanzania&#8217;s Morogoro region from Aug. 15 to Aug. 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teams from Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and host Tanzania are expected to take part in 16 sporting disciplines, including football, basketball and volleyball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rwanda won four medals at last year&#8217;s games in Kakamega, Kenya, taking two gold and two silver medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Igiraneza David, who plays for Coll\u00e8ge George The Fox Kagarama in Kicukiro District, said the team was determined to return home with a victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur goal is to win, and given the preparation we have done, we are ready to compete and make our country proud,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volleyball player Uwase Diela said the students understood the responsibility that came with representing Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have prepared and are ready to work hard.
