Second-half substitutes Junior Kameni and Muhoza Daniel scored as Rayon Sports opened their 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Zanzibar’s KVZ FC on Sunday at Amahoro Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rwandan side had to wait until after the break to make its superiority count, with two changes from the bench transforming a match that had remained goalless through the opening 45 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breakthrough came in the 60th minute after winger Elie Iradukunda “Tatou,” another second-half introduction, won a penalty when he was brought down inside the area by KVZ defender Munir Abdu Shafi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kameni, who had entered the match three minutes earlier, calmly converted the spot kick to give Rayon Sports the lead and settle any early nerves in front of the home crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rayon Sports continued to dictate the tempo and doubled its advantage in the 79th minute when Muhoza Daniel finished off a move created by captain Emmanuel Nshimiyimana Kabange. The goal marked Muhoza’s first competitive strike for the club following his move from Etoile de l’Est during the current transfer window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victory gives Rayon Sports an early advantage in Group C after Sudan’s Al Hilal SC also claimed a winning start, beating Kenya’s Tusker FC 2-0 earlier on Sunday through goals from Mamudu Kamaradini and Adams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rayon Sports will look to build on the result when they face Tusker FC on Wednesday at Kigali Pele Stadium. Al Hilal SC will take on KVZ FC in the other Group C fixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CECAFA Kagame Cup continues on Monday with APR FC opening their campaign against Djibouti’s Garde R\u00e9publicaine, while Uganda’s Vipers SC face Kenya’s Gor Mahia in the day’s earlier match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
