Possible sanctions could include fines, suspensions or other disciplinary measures if the governing body determines that misconduct occurred.

The investigation follows a series of confrontations after Spain’s victory celebrations began. Broadcast footage appeared to show several Argentina players involved in heated exchanges with their Spanish counterparts on the field after the final whistle.

The most serious incidents appeared to involve Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes and Spain defender Eric García, with footage showing a physical confrontation between the two before substitute Gavi was pushed to the ground while attempting to intervene. Argentina defender Nahuel Molina also appeared to make contact with Spain captain Rodri during an altercation, while Nicolás Otamendi was involved in a tense exchange with his former Manchester City teammate.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and players from both teams stepped in to separate those involved. Match officials did not issue any red cards following the post-match incidents.

The scenes overshadowed the immediate aftermath of a historic night for Spain, which secured its second World Cup title and first since 2010 through Ferran Torres’ extra-time winner.

Argentina’s hopes of becoming the first team since 1962 to successfully defend the World Cup ended in frustration. The defending champions played extra time with 10 players after Enzo Fernández was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time at the end of regulation.

FIFA’s investigation will now consider match reports, video evidence and any additional information before deciding whether disciplinary action is required. The final whistle may have ended the tournament’s biggest match, but the fallout from the controversial scenes could continue in the weeks ahead.

FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation into post-match incidents involving Argentina players after tensions boiled over following the team’s 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in […]

[43,41,36,39,27,40

post-2458","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-current_affairs","category-hot_topics","category-international","category-live_updates","category-sports","category-top_stories
["GET
