Financial institutions may charge lower fees or offer the service free of charge depending on their pricing decisions.

The central bank also set a maximum transaction limit of 10 million Rwandan francs per transfer through the platform.

BNR said it will continue supervising eKash operations and working with participating institutions to ensure the system remains secure, reliable and compliant with financial regulations.

The regulator will also monitor service availability, transaction activity, customer protection measures and how complaints are addressed.

Rswitch, the company responsible for operating the eKash platform, said the system allows customers to pay merchants using either a bank account or mobile money wallet, regardless of which financial institution issued the merchant’s payment code.

The company said eKash is accessible through existing banking and payment channels, including USSD services, mobile applications and internet banking.

Rswitch added that customer funds remain protected under Rwanda’s financial sector regulations and pledged to continue providing a secure and efficient payment network that enables people to send, receive and make payments across different financial institutions.

The launch comes as Rwanda continues to promote digital financial services and reduce reliance on cash transactions. The government has been encouraging greater use of electronic payments as part of efforts to build a more connected and inclusive economy.

Customers across Rwanda can now transfer money between bank accounts and mobile money wallets through a new instant payment system designed to make digital payments […]

[53,4,41,34

post-2321","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured-stories","category-finance","category-hot_topics","category-national
["GET
