It attributes the growth to human activity and broader environmental pressures linked to climate change.

It identifies carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) as the main greenhouse gases contributing to global warming.

Under a scenario with no additional mitigation measures, emissions are projected to reach 13.62 million tons in 2026, 20.66 million tons in 2035 and 25.28 million tons in 2040.

However, the report says emissions could be significantly lower if planned measures are fully implemented, projecting levels of 11.08 million tons in 2026, 14.32 million tons in 2035 and 17.17 million tons in 2040.

The report highlights a widening gap between high-emission and low-emission scenarios, underscoring the impact of policy implementation on future climate outcomes.

Rwanda has introduced several measures aimed at reducing emissions, including mandatory emissions testing for public transport and cargo vehicles to identify mechanical faults contributing to pollution. Non-compliance is punishable by a fine of 3 million Rwandan francs ($2,300).

The government is also promoting electric mobility, requiring that at least 30% of newly purchased vehicles for public institutions be electric as part of a broader plan to phase out fossil fuel-powered transport by 2040.

Authorities have also set a target to reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal to 42% by 2030, down from about 83% currently, as part of efforts to cut household emissions.

Rwanda could emit up to 25 million tons of greenhouse gases annually by 2040 if stronger climate action is not implemented, according to a government […]

[38,34

post-1935","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-facts_on_rwanda","category-national
["GET
