The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally granted official approval for two Sudanese teams to participate in the Rwandan Championship, after a long wait.
Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal from Sudan had been in Kigali for nearly two weeks, having already received permission to play from the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) and the Rwanda Premier League Board, but lacked CAF’s official authorization.
FERWAFA confirmed on 19 November, that the teams are now fully cleared to compete. This brings the total number of 18 teams in the top-tier from existing 16 clubs. The approval comes as the league reaches match day seven.

Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal requested to play in Rwanda after competing last year in the Mauritanian Championship, where Al Hilal Clinches title.
Due to nearly three years of conflict in Sudan, most sporting activities in the country had been suspended.
The Sudanese clubs are expected to start playing in the Rwandan Championship immediately and may feature in match day eight starting this Friday.
Football fans often claim that only two Rwandan clubs APR FC and Rayon Sports dominate domestic titles, but these Sudanese teams are expected to raise the standard and provide a true test at the international level, backed by substantial f inancial resources.
