Rwanda and Germany are exploring cooperation in electric buses, charging infrastructure and modern public transport as Rwanda seeks sustainable solutions for its growing transport needs.
The discussions took place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, between Col. Claudien Bizimungu, minister of state of Infrastructure, and Serap Güler, a minister of state at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office.
The two officials discussed opportunities for German companies to contribute to Rwanda’s transport sector, particularly through electric mobility and other sustainable transport solutions.
Bizimungu encouraged German manufacturers, including Volkswagen and MAN Bus & Truck, to expand their involvement in Rwanda, citing opportunities in electric bus production, charging stations and services linked to major infrastructure projects, including the new Kigali International Airport.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining high quality standards and ensuring that investments deliver products and services suited to Rwanda’s transport needs.
“Partnership is essential to strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Germany and accelerating innovative solutions to growing transport needs,” Bizimungu said.
He urged stakeholders to remain competitive and take advantage of emerging opportunities in electric mobility while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
Electric transport could help modernize public transport, reduce emissions and encourage investment in supporting infrastructure, including charging facilities and related services.
The discussions come as Rwanda continues to develop major transport infrastructure and promote cleaner mobility options. Collaboration with international partners and private companies could bring additional investment, technical expertise and new technologies to the sector.
