Kagame receives outgoing Canadian High Commissioner

President Paul Kagame on Thursday received Julie Crowley, Canada’s outgoing High Commissioner to Rwanda, for a farewell meeting at Urugwiro Village.

The meeting focused on relations between Rwanda and Canada and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, according to the Office of the President.

Crowley is completing her tour of duty in Rwanda after serving as Canada’s first resident High Commissioner to the country.

Canada announced her appointment in December 2023, when she succeeded Christopher Thornley.

During her tenure, Crowley represented Canada in efforts to deepen bilateral relations and advance cooperation between the two countries.

The Canadian High Commission has identified areas of common interest between Rwanda and Canada including inclusive and sustainable development, environmental protection, gender equality, peace and stability.

Crowley’s departure follows a farewell meeting with Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Olivier Nduhungirehe, who said she was concluding her tour of duty in Rwanda.
